Harold R. Sobel

Harold Sobel
Member of the Firm of Sobel & Co.
1957-2016

Harold Sobel began his career at Sobel & Co. when he joined his father and firm founder, Bernie Sobel after graduating from Bentley University in 1979. For the next 37 years Harold was highly regarded for his skills as a business advisor and most especially for his expertise in the area of closely-held family business planning, including budgeting, cash flow management, forecasting and succession and estate planning.

Throughout the decades Harold was actively involved in consulting to the retail industry, especially to retail chains in the supermarket niche, on cash management, new site analysis, budgeting, LIFO Accounting, and special depreciation issues along with serving companies in the manufacturing, service, and real estate industries.

His professional credentials included being a Certified Public Accountant in the State of New Jersey, a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, a member of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants and an active member of the New Jersey Food Council.  He also served as Treasurer of Hilltop Country Day School, a non-profit independent school.

Harold's career was distinguished by an adherence to strong values and a commitment to building deep relationships.  He continuously reinforced the importance of putting clients' needs first.  That's because for Harold it was never about just "getting the work done." Instead it was about serving as a true trusted advisor.  Along with a passion for client care delivered at the highest levels, Harold was equally as dedicated to mentoring and guiding those who worked with him.  He set the bar and challenged everyone at the firm to achieve high standards and in the process he helped them to be their very best. From youngest staff to senior partners, Harold was a role model who refused to compromise on quality.

Unfortunately, Harold’s life was cut short on October 2, 2016.  Harold is survived by his wife of 29 years, Bobbie, and their daughter, Jamie.  He is also survived by his father and Sobel & Co.'s founder, Bernard Sobel, his brother and current firm managing partner Alan Sobel (Dana), sister Dot Libman (Victor), seven nieces and nephews, three great nieces and countless friends and clients.

Harold's presence, influence, counsel and inspiration will be missed by all of us at Sobel & Co. and those who were fortunate to work with him.
